Master Bathroom

Image
Hello there lovies- After months of promising you pictures of our master bathroom renovation, I have finally lived up to my promises. Here are the pictures, but first here's a refresher course. You can also take a look { here }, { here } and { here }. I have some loyal California readers that loved our master bathroom just the way it was. I know subway tiles are all the rage now, but every bathroom in our Brooklyn hood had subway tile and so did every bathroom of the houses we looked at in our new Burbia town. I was just tiiiiiired of it.  More importantly, though it's not clear from the pictures, the tile needed a pick me up. and what I mean by pick me up is a complete gut job. lol. Getting there: Remember the tile palette that we were using? From top left corner going clockwise- tile for shower floor, tile for floor, tile for accent wall behind vanities and tile for accent wall behind the tub.  There was also o...

Bathroom Lighting Update

You know I love me some searching through a million sites on the internet.  I can't get enough.  I entered "bathroom sconces" into houzz.com because I didn't LOVE the sconces I had posted about { here } .  They were nice and I liked them a lot, but I wasn't ecstatic about them.  So, "bathroom sconces" lead me to these lovelies.  I thought, "Wow.  These are different."    Dayna Katlin Interiors bathroom- Image from houzz.com Houzz.com has a section where readers can ask questions about the rooms that people post on the site.  Not everyone answers the questions, but the lovely Dayna Katlin, who designed the above bathroom, was nice enough to tell Houzz readers where she got these sconces: Circa Lighting.  So, my search continued.  Over to Circalighting.com I went.  This is what I found: The sconces from my search on Houzz.com : Primitive sconce by Clodagh When I showed these sconce...

We're Getting There

Image
This weather stinks! I wish the sun would come out! One of the good things about rain (besides providing water to plants and animals) is that it makes me feel slightly less bad about sitting in front of my computer for hours looking for sconces (lights for those lacking a PhD in lighting terminology. lol) for our master bathroom in our new house (that we still have not moved into- if you're wondering).  Yes, I know it's exciting. Try to contain yourselves, but this is what I have been spending my extra time doing.  Sad, but true. Instead of trying to fit a larger vanity with two sinks into our master bathroom, we decided to buy two smaller vanities, one for me and one for hubby.  My mom said she saw this setup in a model bathroom and it looked pretty good, so we decided to go for it since it would work better in the space that we have.  Take a look at this old picture of our master bathroom: One vanity will go where the sink is and ...

Rub a Dub Dub

Our 'new' house was built in 1897 and the last time our brand-new, state-of-the-art master bathroom was re-done was in 1925 (according to the newspapers we found in the wall during the demolition of said bathroom). Here are some pictures of our 'vintage' master bathroom: Pictures of what our bathroom looks like now:  For the last few weekends, we have been going to Porcelanosa . It's an amazing kitchen and bathroom store in Paramus, NJ that has tiles, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, bathtubs, showers, faucets and more. The styles they offer are very contemporary and are way too nice to be wasted on a run-of-the-mill bathroom. Here are some of the looks from Porcelanosa that we really love and some of the pieces that we are contemplating for our new master bathroom. Love the feel of this open shower Like the way this shelf is built into the wall This modern take on an old school style would go great with our ...
