Guests Welcome

Hello there! I know.  I know. It's been soooooo long since we last spoke. The new job is kicking my arse.  Luckily I met my first big deadline and I now have time to devote to my 3rd child, StyleBurbia. There has been some progression on the house since we last spoke. So, here we are. Remember the inspiration for my powder room? If not, let's take a lookie. The great thing about inspiration is that you start with an idea and you go with it.  Sometimes you get something really close to your inspiration, but if things happen more organically you end up with something completely different with your personal touches. Ok. This is what the powder room looked like before we bought the house. Nothing wrong with it, but definitely more traditional than our taste.  Anyone want to buy a hand painted sink? Remember how many mosaic tiles I looked at? For a refresher course, take a look { here } and { here }. ...

Happy Friday and Happy New Year!   I hope you had an amazing time ringing in the new year and saying goodbye to 2012. An upcoming deadline for work is keeping me busy, busy, busy. We Moved In!!!!

Finally!    We moved in last Saturday. It feels great. More unpacking to do. More projects to finish, but at least we are in.   We kept going back and forth on what to do in our powder room.     At first I was going to do a wall with tile like this:       this:      or this:         Let's just say that a small wall with one of those tiles would cost A LOT and though we were fine spending it on this space, our budget was shrinking by the minute.     So we went back to the lovely Aileen at Porcelanosa and came up with other options:     These two options were lovely, but didn't have a wow factor:       We pretty quickly decided on the floor that we liked. It was cool because we brought the floor tile and the tile that resembled our vanity and mixed and matched it with different wall t...

What I'm Obsessing Over Now

Image
Hello there lovies! Did you have a nice long weekend? So many things to still do and we are coming down to the wire. The kitchen renovation is well on it's way. The walls and ceiling are up, the sub floor is down.  Electrical and plumbing are done.  The hardwood floor is going to be installed this week, so we should be ready to install our kitchen cabinets next week. We still need to: Pick out our granite counter top Pick out our kitchen faucets Figure out what we are doing for the back splash in the kitchen Pick out lighting for above the sink Pick out sconces for the sun room off of the kitchen It would also be nice to figure out what we are doing for the accent wall in the guest bath off of the kitchen and to pick out a tile for the floor and light for that same bathroom. Luckily we have already: Picked out our sinks and.... um.... Oh. Wait. We must have done something. Oh, yes- picked out our appliances, our washer and dryer (our ...

Vanities

Image
Happy Tuesday! Seriously, WHERE HAS THE SUMMER GONE? I used to be one of those nerdy kids that really looked forward to school starting every year- new clothes, new notebooks, seeing all of my friends again. Now with none of that fun stuff to look forward to in the fall, I often feel even sadder that the summer is almost over. :( There's nothing like choosing vanities for your guest bathroom to pick you up out of an end of summer slump, right? NOT! LOL. Anywho, I have to say when picking out the vanities for the guest bathroom I had no idea what direction I was going in-super modern like the rest of the kitchen or modern with a touch of the past to tie in the Victorian style of our house. I had narrowed down my vanity choices to these lovelies: This one was more traditional but the chrome legs made it more current.  I had a hard time with the fact that it only had 2 legs though. Is it just me or does it look a bit strange? ...
