Turkey Overload

Hello there! For those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving last week, I hope you had a lovely holiday.  One of my favorite people, my sister, made it out to spend the holiday with us and I was BEYOND happy.  I also overexerted myself by trying to cook a gazillion side dishes and a dessert.  I made a sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach, butternut squash soup, brussels sprouts, stuffing, cranberry sauce,  cranberry relish and chocolate dipped coconut macaroons.  I think that's it.... yes that's it. So needless to say, I am still EXHAUSTED and didn't use the time to rest up at all, but c'est la vie. Aunty Amby with her favorite guys    I originally thought that we would be hosting Thanksgiving at our house. Images of tablescapes danced in my head.     Table setting via Martha Stewart     Only thing, there were a few things working against us.   No dining room table or chairs. ...

This Drink is on Me

I love having parties and I'm really looking forward to finally having enough room to entertain for more than 10 people at a time (and that was only possible during the summer when we would cram everyone into our outdoor space).  Perhaps it has to do with part of my inner 'hostess with the mostest', but there is something quite chic about having a beautiful spot to display all of your bar items so that you will always be prepared to make that martini for an unexpected guest (or the many drinks for those expected ones). I started dreaming about bar carts about 5 years ago when we bought our apartment in Brooklyn.  Alas, there wasn't a great space for one.  I made due with a tray with a few of my favorite Nambe glasses and a pretty decanter, which usually held whiskey or scotch, but also housed an occasional rum or bourbon. Tray in lieu of much wanted bar cart in our old apartment Tray from a distance Now that we'll have more space, here are a...

You Light Up My Life

Lately, I am totally obsessed with MANY different things.  Here are my top 5: 1) Mirrors , 2) Pinterest , 3) Bright Colors for my Spring Wardrobe, 4) Decorating in Grey and Yellow and 5) Lighting. In the new house, we're going to need a lot of new lighting.  I'm planning on putting chandeliers EVERYWHERE- the master bathroom, my dressing room, the dining room, the foyer, the re-designed sunroom and possibly the kiddos bathroom too.  Well, when I said I was obsessed, I wasn't kidding! :)  A lot of the new chandeliers are less traditional and aren't what come to mind when you think chandelier. So without further ado, here are some of my chandelier inspirations: Simple and Classic Sausalito Chandelier from Horchow Sleek and modern Arteriors Glass Ball Chandelier from Horchow This is my fav. Love it! Lucia Chandelier from Horchow This one is a lot of fun! Capiz Shell Pendant Light from Horchow Lovely! Fas...

I'm a BIG fan of mirrors.  I think buying an amazing mirror can take a space from being ho-hum to over-the-top .  I also really love mirrored furniture, especially tables.  Here are some of my current favs.  Now, I know some of these are pricey, but we're talking inspiration here.  If these are out of range for you, you can always try a similar style at a discount home store like Home Goods.  Do you have a favorite store where you can always pick up great home decor? I think these would look great on either side of my bed Pottery Barn Park Mirrored Bedside Table or these Sarried Astrid Lamp Table (just sold out on Joss & Main) This would look lovely in my 'dressing room' in my new house Pottery Barn Park Mirrored Tower Dresser I MUST have this mirror Horchow Knot Mirror Talk about a MAJOR statement Horchow Janice Minor White Porcupine Quill Mirror Very similiar to the Horchow knot mirror Amanda Erin- Michae...
