Greetings and Salutations

Hello! Greetings from the real world.  Coming back from vacation can be.. how shall I put it? BRUTAL!!! The fam and I were down on South Padre Island in Texas (yes, this is a favorite of many spring breakers) for a week-long affair.  Let me just say it was short of amazing.  The weather was incredible- in the 80s- sunny and breezy.  The company couldn't be beat.  The food was plentiful and the drinks were flowing.  What more could a girl want? Hmmm... a longer vacation, a vacation after my vacation, a few days at home to get my act together????  :) Speaking of getting my act together, let's just say it's not together at all right now.  I still have 'beach hair' (aka I can't get a comb through my hair and must wear it in a bun).  I was so tired this morning that I could not piece together an outfit to wear to the office.  I ended up wearing a maternity shirt (no, I am not pregnant).  I didn't realize it until I had already 'incoporated' it into

Fresh, Fresh, Exciting

The Joe Fresh flagship store opened near my office a couple of Fridays ago. I had posted some of their clothes on my spring shopping list , so I had to check it out. I ended up picking up a couple of dresses , a couple t-shirts , a couple button-downs , a pair of colored jeans  and a pair of shorts . We had a meeting in Burbia to check out a preschool for our older son, H.  See how I styled my new Joe Fresh dress for our meeting. Dress: Joe Fresh , Coat: J. Crew (old), Boots: BP Runway boot from Nordstrom , Bag: Miu Miu , Necklace: J. Crew (old), Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren (old) see similar here , Watch: Armitron (not Michael Kors or real gold- based on comments I get all the time. lol) The kids, hubby and I are all going on vacation with my parents, my sister and her husband, my father-in-law, one of my husband's brothers and a few of our friends who also have kids.  It's going to be a huge crew and hopefully a huge amount of fun.  We will

Granite

Things have been a bit slow lately over at the new digs.  We have been waiting for our final plans from our architect on the design of the new kitchen area (we received them!).  We were waiting for quotes from three places for the kitchen cabinets and we finally got the last one yesterday.  We are also waiting on some quotes for a new heating system in the house which will unify the 3! different types of heat that currently exist- convection, steam and electric.  Now I know Rome wasn't built in 3 days, but it is a bit hard to deal with down time when we were going a million miles per hour.  It feels like we got so much done and then came to a screeching halt.  A few weeks ago, when we were neck deep in a thousand projects, we decided to take a field trip to check out some granite for our humongous new island in our kitchen.  We had a few ideas in mind, but were completely blown away by the number of choices out there. We went into the showroom and these were just a few of the

Tales from a Wandering Shopper

Happy Friday! This post it a bit of a mash up. First off, I wanted to show you that the Wall Street Journal was in agreement with me about adding some fun to men's wardrobes, and footwear in particular, by adding colored laces.  See my post about this here . Thanks to my fashion-forward co-worker who sent this article my way.  :) Click on the link below if you want to take a look at the WSJ article. WSJ men's style article The rest of the pictures are from my wandering around town trying to pick up some items from my spring shopping list.  See my list here. New Yorkers are notorious for carrying around a million bags for our gym clothes, yoga mats, flats to change into after running around in heels all day, etc.  So, I thought these totes from the Gap would be a cute way to incorporate neon (top left) or very bright colors (top right- the tote is actually a very electric blue).  Also, I love stripes.  I can't get enough of them, so, I

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

I'm obssessed with flowers, plants, gardens and all things pretty that grow from the ground. Remember my previous post ? Just wanted to share some pics from one of my favorite streets in my Brooklyn 'hood. Happy Spring! (p.s If you've never read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, it's a great book that you should check out.)

It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday

Image
The previous owners of our house used the below room as their dining room.  The walls were covered with a peachy grass cloth wallpaper.  Initially, we were going to keep it on the walls, but after closer examination we realized that the wallpaper was coming up at the seams and would likely need to be redone.  After the wallpaper was taken down  So, we took down the wallpaper and found a little surprise. We found these little guys under the wallpaper.  The previous owners bought our house in the early eighties.  I would assume that they wouldn't cover up their own paintings with wallpaper, though I could be wrong.  So, I'm assuming that these angels are at least 30 years old, which is not that old in the 115 year history of our house.  I still thought it was cool to find these little treasurers.   Unfortunately for them, they are totally not our style, so we painted over them.  I felt really badly, but I really couldn't visualize them f
