Tales from a Wandering Shopper

Happy Friday!

This post it a bit of a mash up.

First off, I wanted to show you that the Wall Street Journal was in agreement with me about adding some fun to men's wardrobes, and footwear in particular, by adding colored laces.

New Yorkers are notorious for carrying around a million bags for our gym clothes, yoga mats, flats to change into after running around in heels all day, etc.  So, I thought these totes from the Gap would be a cute way to incorporate neon (top left) or very bright colors (top right- the tote is actually a very electric blue).  Also, I love stripes.  I can't get enough of them, so, I think the black and white one (bottom left) is super cute too.  I would be schlepping around my kindle, a magazine, plans from our architect and an extra pair of shoes in one of these bags (in addition to my purse).

    Ris... I thought of you this past Friday while picking a few colorful things at JCrew. Got these great pencil skirts in "citron" and "Casablanca" blue.  I think you can totally work those into your office wardrobe with either a basic white shirt or black shell & cadigan. For the office I think basic/nuetral color tops work best (don't want to stir up too much buzz... Lol). On the weekend I plan to wear with a cute pattern Tee or cami. I'm a BIG fan of mirrors.  I think buying an amazing mirror can take a space from being ho-hum to over-the-top .  I also really love mirrored furniture, especially tables.  Here are some of my current favs.  Now, I know some of these are pricey, but we're talking inspiration here.  If these are out of range for you, you can always try a similar style at a discount home store like Home Goods.  Do you have a favorite store where you can always pick up great home decor? What are you Reading?

It's raining in NYC, which is quite welcome considering how extremely hot it has been the last few weeks. Days like these make me feel like staying home and curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee.  In fact, our new house has a porch (wish list item), so I'm looking forward to spending some time out there under a blanket with a cool breeze blowing over me with a glass of wine, book in hand (not sure how I can do this with two toddlers running around).  Wow! I'm really getting into this porch scenario.  You can tell I've obviously thought about this.. A LOT. This would be a good place to curl up. Weekend in Review

Hello there! It's been waaaaay tooooo long. So sorry for my absence, but my nanny/babysitter had a death in the family and had to go home for a week.  All of our back up babysitters-aka our parents- were out of the country, traveling for business or extremely busy at the office and therefore could not provide their usual assistance.  Luckily for us, hubby's company has emergency daycare that you can use 3 weeks out of the year for situations just like this.  I really have to take my hat off to parents who schlep their kiddos every day to daycare, summer camp, grandma and grandpa's house etc. before they head into the office.  Let me just say it ain't easy getting those little guys dressed and fed and out the door early in the morning (of course I have to do this on weekends, but there isn't the pressure of being late for work).  The boys ended up having a great time and enjoyed taking the subway every day, so somehow we survived.  Oh- and most important
